There are many things you’ll learn about me, one being that I am a Foodie. I love food. It doesn’t have to be fancy food, either – I get immense joy out of a spoon of peanut butter. So, any celebrations of food are right up my alley. If you didn’t know these national celebration days existed, you can thank me later for giving you little reasons to put something special in your kids’ lunches or have a dinner that’s a little out of the ordinary. By the way, this is not an inclusive list – I just picked ones that sounded particularly fun to observe. (Some days, like National Turkey Neck Soup Day, just sound icky.) And don’t worry, I’ll find you some healthy ways to celebrate the scary-calorie-count days!
- Peanut Butter Lover’s Day
- Banana Cream Pie Day
- Cold Cuts Day (doesn’t excite me, but hey, I won’t judge)
- Pound Cake Day (pass the strawberries and whipped cream!)
- Cheese Doodle Day (what could be more fun than Cheese Doodles?!?!?)
- White Chocolate Cheesecake Day (Mmmm, cheesecake!)
- Crown Roast of Pork Day (I’m not sure what this is, but I want to try it)
- Peanut Cluster Day
- Crabmeat Day (will the fake stuff work, too?)
- Blueberry Popover Day (may have to settle for Pop Tarts)
- Oatmeal-Nut Waffle Day (a bit specific, don’t you think?)
- Baked Scallops Day
- Coconut Torte Day (I don’t recommend putting one in you kids’ lunches)
- Pie Day (for non-mathematicians, pi = 3.14 and a lot more numbers)
- Artichoke Hearts Day (not very popular at my house)
- Corned Beef and Cabbage Day (also not very popular at my house)
- Oatmeal Cookie Day (popular at my house – watch for a recipe)
- Chocolate Caramel Day (it’s also Poultry Day, but chicken always loses to chocolate!)
- Ravioli Day
- Chip and Dip Day (the possibilities are endless!)
- Chocolate Covered Raisins Day (VERY popular at my house)
- Pecan Day and Waffle Day (suggest waffles with butter pecan syrup)
- Spinach Day (may surprise you, but very popular at my house)
- Spanish Paella Day (no idea, but it sounds intriguing, so I will find a recipe)
- Black Forest Cake Day (enough said)
- Lemon Chiffon Cake Day (in case you’re over your sugar high from the 28th)
- Tater Day (another endless-possibility day)
I like to use these days to try something new, expand our culinary envelope, think outside the (ice)box – you get the idea. Have fun with it, and stay tuned for some recipes! Bon Appetit! 😉
