We’re past this stage with the kids, thankfully, but there was a time when there were serious concerns about the mysterious regions known as Underbed and Closetback. You see, that’s where the monsters lived.
There were a few rough nights, there, I’m not too shy to say.
“Mom, I’m not tired.”
“Mom, I’m still thirsty.”
“Mom, I’m scared!”
Night lights and story times didn’t seem to be enough to take care of these persistent worries, and I was starting to get a little concerned. Then a friend mentioned the idea of a monster spray, and saved the day!
I took a small spray bottle, about four ounces, and filled it with water, glitter, and a few drops of lavender essential oil (just in case it would help the kids drift off). Then I printed a picture of a monster off a coloring book page and added the red circle with a line through it, like the Ghostbusters logo, and taped that to the bottle.
Presto! Monster No More spray.
Each night, I let the kids give the bottle a shake, then I sprayed once under the bed and once in the closet. In retrospect, the glitter might have been a bit much, since it does hang around, and I quickly learned to aim the bottle with care. But it fixed the problem.
Now there are commercially available versions with professional graphics, some with accompanying pillowcases or charms. But whether you go DIY or pro, I hope this tip adds some peace to your kids’ bedtime.
