I’ve lived in a few places in my life, and always tried to find interesting things to do and cool places to take visitors. Being the foodie that I am, one of my favorite places around here is the Tillamook Cheese Factory, about an hour and a half west of here. The drive itself is a treat, taking you through the Tillamook State Forest on Highway 6.
The Tillamook Cheese Factory, located at 4185 U.S. 101 North in Tillamook, Oregon, is the Tillamook County Creamery Association’s original cheese production facility. The Tillamook Cheese Factory also serves as a visitor center and hosts over 1 million tourists each year.
Once in Tillamook, you can enjoy a free, self-guided tour of the factory, where I’ll admit I drool just a little at the sight of huge blocks of their yummy cheese. You get free samples of cheese, sometimes cheese curds, that just whet your appetite for the café, where I had the best grilled cheese sandwich EVER, followed by some unbelievable ice cream. It may not be the healthiest place to visit, but it’s very tasty! And starting March 7, you can enter their Grilled Cheese Contest, but it will be hard to beat Tillamook’s own creation!
